What you actually give up when you cancel a native plan.
Every page in this category runs the same arithmetic: three subscriptions at $60 versus one bundle at $20. None of them tells you what the $40 was buying. Bundles reach models through APIs, and a provider’s best work increasingly sits outside the API.
The loss map
What does not come with you.
Bundles reach models through provider APIs. Anything a provider builds on top of its own model — an agent, an editor, a browser, an Office integration — is not in the API and therefore not in any bundle.
| If you cancel | Price | What is native-only | Can a bundle replace it? |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Plus | $20 | Codex, Sora video, Deep Research, advanced voice, custom GPTs, connectors, memory across chats | None of it. These are native-only surfaces, not API features. |
| Claude Pro | $20 | Claude Code, Cowork, Projects, Artifacts with the full 200k context, Research | Some bundles reproduce artifacts. Claude Code and Cowork have no bundle equivalent. |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99 | Pro-class Gemini, Workspace integration in Docs and Gmail, Veo video, 2TB storage, NotebookLM Pro | Bundles typically include Flash-class Gemini. The Workspace and storage parts cannot be bundled at all. |
| Microsoft 365 Premium | $19.99 | Copilot inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; Researcher and Analyst agents | Nothing. No bundle operates inside Office documents. |
| Perplexity Pro | $20 | Comet browser, source-first search UI, Spaces, per-answer citation chains | Several bundles include Perplexity Sonar for search, which is the API, not the product. |
Prices checked 13 September 2026. This is the question every comparison page skips, because the honest answer weakens the case for switching.
The rule
One line that decides it.
If the thing you use most is a model, a bundle can replace your plan. If the thing you use most is a product built on that model, it cannot.
Someone who opens ChatGPT to ask questions and paste text is paying $20 for API-reachable chat, and a bundle does that for less while adding model choice. Someone who lives in Claude Code, drafts in Google Docs with Gemini, or runs Copilot inside Excel is paying for software, and no aggregator sells that software.
The expensive mistake is the middle case: cancelling a native plan, discovering three weeks later that one native-only feature mattered, and re-subscribing while keeping the bundle. That is the outcome the “save $60 a month” framing never models — and refund windows in this category run from three to fourteen days, so the discovery usually arrives too late.
FAQ
Questions this page answers.
What do you lose by switching from ChatGPT Plus to a bundle?
Everything OpenAI builds on top of the model rather than inside it: Codex, Sora video, Deep Research, advanced voice mode, custom GPTs, connectors, and memory across conversations. Bundles reach GPT through the API, and none of those are API features.
Can an AI bundle replace Claude Pro?
For chat, yes. For Claude Code, Cowork and Projects, no — those are Anthropic products built around the model and are not exposed through the API that bundles use. If you mainly ask Claude questions, a bundle substitutes cleanly. If you run Claude Code daily, it does not.
Do bundles include the same Gemini as Google AI Pro?
Usually not. Bundles commonly include a Flash-class Gemini, which is Google's fast, cheap tier, while a $19.99 Google AI Pro subscription includes the Pro-class model plus Workspace integration, Veo and 2TB of storage. The price looks comparable; the product is not.
Is there any bundle that works inside Microsoft Office?
No. Copilot inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is Microsoft software running against your documents, not a model endpoint. No aggregator in this category operates inside Office files.
Should I cancel my native plan before trying a bundle?
Run both for one billing cycle if you can afford it. The common expensive mistake is cancelling, discovering weeks later that one native-only feature mattered, and re-subscribing while keeping the bundle — leaving you paying more than before. Refund windows here run from three to fourteen days, which is shorter than it takes to notice.
